U can find the answer to all of these w/ research....and u are on a forum for srt-4's....pretty sure most of us like and have fun driving them!
I'll try to make this as short as possible, and i appreciate everyone who takes the time to read this and post. I have been thinking about buying an srt4 (04/05) for the past few weeks. I've been doing some research on them, but some of my questions I'm getting different results for. So here are some of the questions i hope you guys can help me out with!
-What is the stock boost level? I have read it varies with outside temp., is this true?
-Can you fit a 215/45/17 size tire on the stock rims? I know they are only 6" wide which is why i question a 215.
-I have also read that these cars seem pretty reliable if kept near stock, also true?
-Does the car have a stock BOV or not? What is the mopar conversion kit that i have seen?
-What kind of fuel mileage can i expect (not really hard driving, but there will be a few pulls in a tank)?
-As i understand it, they seem to be under-rated from the factory, what kind of WHP do they put down stock? about 215-220 sound close?
-Is the 3rd gear problem as bad as i have read? I don't really want to do a trans rebuild shortly after purchase...
-On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, how would you rate the enjoyment you get out of driving an SRT4? The reason i ask is because the way i see it, you can have a nice car with nice options and luxurys, but hate driving the thing, and then you can have a car with not so nice luxurys but absolutely love driving the thing. And driving enjoyment is the most important feature i think any car can offer.
Thank you very much for any input you may have to any of my questions!!

i have more fun driving my evo. stock evo > my 11sec neon.

i have one for sale bone stock 9k....22mpg city is what i get...stock boost is 12psi...about 14 15psi in higher gears...3rd gear isnt that bad well in my case it was but its hit or miss...i would give it a 10 in its price bracket...i have had my car stage 3 and drove it for 30k only problem was third gear synchro went after 15 track passes...i mean overall you will like it....comes with a surge valve new bov is about 400 can find used one for 200 to 250
Simply the best car I have ever owned hands down. Wish I never got rid of it, and kick myself in the ass every day because of It.
With that said, I brought my Neon with 5 miles on it from the dealer brand new. I would be sceptical buying one used, since 99.9% of them have been abused. Not sure if I would have the same luck regarding reliability on a used one.
Keep it simple and you will be happy. A 12 second Neon on the track is fairly easy to accomplish, and reliable.
3rd gear is common with all of them. I never had it pop out, but i did have difficulty getting it into gear once in a while. Nothing I couldnt deal with.
Stock boost levels are in the 13-14lb range, and bleed off to 8-9lbs. They are ass backwards for most turbo cars. Most turbo cars build and hold most boost throug the RPM range. This is an exception.
They are not underrated from the factory. Actually most 04-05's are on par with 220-225hp in stock trim. 03's are in the 210-215hp.
The car has a stock "recirculation valve" not a BOV. If you use the stock Valve which is actually connected to the turbo housing you wont "Hear it" The Mopar bluepate special is basicly a noise maker. It Blows off only the positive pressure in the Turbo housing, not the entire system.
Cant comment on the tire size since I had an ACR which took 225's.
I would rate it as 10 in my book! Had everything my 09 Camery has except an AUX port for my iPod, and power seats. This included power windows, power mirrors, power sunroof, AC, Nice stereo. ETC.
My favorite part of this car is it was FUN. Youn could drive it casual, but if some radom dude in a Vette, Porsche, or somthing gave you a hard time, you had the ass behind the car to scare them. Even after i purchased my mothers Vette, I still missed the Neon.
i wish it had an AUX connection.

First and foremost. Traction. I can floor it in first gear in the rain and still get traction :).
Second, is quality. The car just feels a lot more sturdy all around.
Third, response to mods. With 4 mods, my evo is nearly as fast as my neon was with everything it had.
Fourth, handling. I wasn't someone that loved going around turns until I got my evo.

i would get one again if and only if:
It was bone stock and never modded.
regular maintenance was done properly
it had a wingless trunk (thats not a mod, thats mandatory)
ant, mine meets all of the above requirements minus the wingless trunk. i can arrange that for you though. because i love you.
this morning my dad said, and i quote "i'm going to file the fuck out of this manifold."

i might have exaggerated a little on the quote. he said shit, not fuck. my bad. i got excited.
well he wants some space between the two. the pump was sitting right on the manifold. it cracked the old one, and he wants to make sure it doesn't happen to the new one.
