hey guys, so as some of you know, i just bought a speed3. and now the srt is going to be my toy and project for a while.

so im going to be taking apart the engine entirely, first to see whats wrong with it, and to learn about everything internally and how to do things myself.

so heres a list of the things ive removed:
intake, cold/hot side pipes, intercooler, and coil pack.

i think next to come off would be the throttlebody and fuel line right?

my question is how to remove those properly, and if im going in the right direction.

there are 2 bolts holding the fuel line in place. also where the injector cover attatches. i'm assuming the car has been sitting a while, so there shouldn't be much fuel pressure. i think if you make sure the injectors stay in the fuel line, you shouldn't have a problem anyway. undo the clip on the fuel line, remove the thermostat housing, remove the intake manifold, remove the exhaust manifold/oil and coolant lines. drain the coolant. remove radiator hoses. etc. basically, if you see it, take it out.

but before going crazy, you may want to remove the head before removing the entire motor though just to see if there is anything obvious.

a good idea might be to label the bolts in ziplock bags. there are going to be a ton of bolts, and it gets confusing after a while. let us know how you make out.

yeah man. ive been baggin and tagging everything so far. lol its a mess. but yeah how would i remove the head? do i need to remove the throttle body in order to do that?

leave the throttle body attatched to the intake manifold. no need to take it off.

it's been a while since i took the head off.

start by draining your coolant
take off the valve cover.
take off the t-stat housing.
then the intake manifold.
remove timing belt cover.
unbolt the power steering pump, and move it out of the way.
then take off the top and bottom motor mounts (make sure to have a jack under the motor supporting it).
then remove the middle motor mount. (you are going to need a special star tool for this. i believe it is a t55. you can get it at pep boys)
start by unbolting it from the pass side wheel well. (there is a plastic or rubber circular grommet in there covering it)
the jack the motor up until you can get to all of the bolts on the middle motor mount. it's a large black iron piece on the side of the motor.
then lower the motor to remove the exhaust manifold and all coolant and oil lines.
remove the cam caps. make sure to keep them all in order. they have to go back the same way they came out.
remove cams.
then remove the head bolts.

i'm PRETTY sure that's it. i mean it's pretty easy to figure out as you go. if it's attatched to the head, it's gotta come out.

I have a better Idea:

Forget about pulling all the small stuff off. You'll bust your knucks through the whole process.

Pull the whole engine out if your going to re-build. It just makes sense.

okk soo i know i havent posted on here in a while. been pretty busy, but i did nget to work on the car for a few days and this is what i have done so far,
took out the intake,
battery,
intercooler and piping,
fuel rail
radiator hose cause it was annoying me
btw i wasnt sure if i should have done that or not or if i did it correctly so any insight to that would be great
then i detached the intake manifold from the block, but i cant seem to figure out how to remove it. or take the throttle body off. soo some help with that would be great.
also how do you remove the coolant before taking off the valve cover? and what should i do next?
btw keep in mind that all im trying to do is learn the engine and figure out whats wrong with it because when it was running i heard a knock as if i spun a bearing or something like that cause of no oil >,< soo yeah. thanks for the help guys!

oh boy hahaha...maybe you should be having someone who knows what they are doing help you. the intake manifold is attached to the head, not the block. but that's neither here nor there.

what's the problem with getting the intake manifold off, if you're saying it's detatched? as long as you took off the intercooler piping, which you say you did, you shouldn't have a problem getting the intake manifold out..just disconnect the map sensor clip, and the boost source underneath the manifold.

don't bother separating the throttle body from the intake manifold.

there is no coolant in the valve cover, but you still need to drain the coolant before taking the head off. there is a plug located on the bottom of the radiator.
