head gasket is an easy job especially with someone of your knowledge.
I would compression test as well.
Gents..
Off the subject of SRT's.
1997 Escort 2.0 SOHC.
Possibly going to do a head gasket on this thing. Anyone ever done one?
No leaks, but I am blowing tons of steam out of my overflow, yet temp guage doesnt read hot.
Though there was a airpocket in the coolant system, and tried to burp it.
Then noticed that I am blowing a ton of steam out of the exhaust on an 75 degree day even though the car is warm. Going to replace the T-stat for Shits and giggles, but I do think it is opening.
Funny thing is, no coolant is in the crankcase which tells me either a cracked block, or head gasket is only leaking into one of the cylinders.
Shit doesnt end.

My knowlege isnt really much more than others have. I jsut try to justify what could cause the problem and follow the paths to each portion to diagnose.
In this instance, I may have jumped to conclusions. I am going to swap out the radiator cap since it may be bad, and letting the pressure release and blow straight through to the overflow. This would make it look like an overheat, but judging by the fact that my guage says otherwise, i am sceptical.
We'll see. LOL
Sure enough. Im glad a checked the cap. I would have pulled the whole head off for nothing.
Cap spring was busted.
what would cause white smoke coming out of the exhaust if the cap was the problem?

Unfortunatly it is the problem. Either a bad head gasket or a cracked block. I dunno.
Its going to the shop. I picked it up from a used car lot with a warranty. Get this. I was 1 mile under the warranty limit of 3000 miles or 3 months. Dealer wasnt too hapy with that. I thought i was way over the warranty until i checked my paperwork.
that's a relief! talk about a close call lol. at least you don't have to deal with the headache.

Too bad engine blew up last night on the way up there. Completly unrelated to the headgasket issue. Although it didnt help much sicne now the guy doesnt want to warranty it since it happened "After the Warranty expired" (30 miles over) Fuckin Jerkoff.
My luck doesnt get any better. Blew up the Jimmy, Totalled the next car 3 weeks later, and this engine decides to take a dump. 3 cars in 3 months.
Anyone got an affordable car for sale?
where did you get the car? so that i know, and everyone else knows to stay clear of this place.

Since I had so many issues. I decided it would be in my best interest to by a new or certified pre-own.
Happy to say I picked up a 09 Camry with 37k. A lot more car than I expected. Drives nice for sure.

yeah...i'm sure the huge crack in cyl one which had coolant SEEPING through it with the head off had nothing to do with it
