Best to go with? Coilovers or Springs?

Just curious which you guys tend to use. Lowering springs or Coilovers? Do coilovers really have the advantage over springs being you can raise and lower, or are springs more secure at that they just lower it and that's it? I need to lower my ride once I get it back, and not sure which to go with. What you guys think?

it depends on what you mean by GO WITH?
if all you want to do is lower the car, both options will do that.

springs for the most part determine the ride height.

but, there are many ways to obtain a desired ride height that springs (only) might not accomodate.

CO's will feel and ride MUCH better than springs. Nevermind the fact that after so many miles on springs alone, you're stock struts will go bad and you'll have to replace them anyway

If I could do it all over again, a GOOD set of coilovers would have been my 1st option. Going from springs w/ stock struts, springs w/ tokico struts, ipp coilovers & finally Tein SS coilovers was a HUGE waste of time and money.

Do it right the first time. With all the experiences & knowledge people have from past experiences it should be a piece of cake to mod these cars the right way.

insert comment about this being a neon forum again. :D

I'm still sticking to my plan of Megan or BC coilover.
For some reason I can't remember which one it was though I was going to get.

Only springs worth buying IMO would be Mopar Stage 1's coupled with Tokicos. However, if you have the money, my recommendation is either Mopar Stage 3 co's or Tein SS's. IMO the Mopars rode slightly smoother than the Teins with the teins supporting slightly more aggressive handling capablities. All depends on what/how you're going to use them.

choosing certain components is such a crap shoot. the subjectiveness of them all makes it maddening. COs, clutches, shifters, tires, etc.

Drive in someone's car who has the part, ask them to test out different settings (if applicable), see what you like. It's all personal preference in the end anyway. People just don't go out and buy the "best part" no matter what the cost. It's all relative to each individual situation.

Can't corner balance a car with non-adjustable suspension, now can you?

kind of tough when most of the people you've known with parts you'd like to sample have sold out totally (Hozay, Chris, etc.) and the rest who have cars are too new to the game.

yea. for the record I have BC's BR version on my 'future build' sheet, but the megans and the BC's were virtually identical. Think I chose the BCs because they had rear camber plates as an option and the Megan's didn't. Otherwise they were the same dampers and springs.

I personally had a great experience with the Tein SS coilovers. Jon suggests the Mopar's ran smoother which I've driven plenty of SRT's with them but I can't tell the difference. Other factors such as size wheels, tires, drop come into play as well. I had 18x8 wheels wrapped with 235 series rubber & even then the ride was smooth.

if you can afford mopar s3 coilovers or bc sports if not mopar stage 1 springs are the only other spring i would use.they do ride better than stockwith a perfectly proportioned drop

edit: i had tein ss in mine and liked them much

i had Eibach springs on my neon and the car looked awesome lowered but rode like shit. you could get away with it if you lived in the Southwest where they dont have 8 foot deep craters in every road, thats about it.
