My gf wanted to buy me a regular D40 for Christmas and i was talking to one of the BestBuy guys and he had me so lost... I didn't buy it yet because i'm not sure if i'm up to figure that out yet. How hard is the damn thing to operate?

tom...go for the d40x......i think the d40 doesn't work w/ autofocus lenses....

slr cameras are cool.......even if u just shoot in "auto" mode...pics come out nice......in jpeg format u really never have to worry about filling ur card (for the most part)

eventually u'll get the hang of other modes...that's where i'm at now w/ my d200

get it.. its worth it. once u get aq hang of it. the pics come out great.. as bill said, auto mode comes out good too.
