well im goin for it.... today at work (becuas i have nothing better to do) i decided to design my own intercooling piping for the srt-4 on AUTOcad
i took most of the measurment and im in the final stage of getting a preliminary pipe done.... pipe will be 2.25 mandrel bent pipe... ill have the design posted up soon so u all can see that im not crazy.... the pipe will be in two peices to make install easier and ill have a few protypes bent out of a local shop in sayerville.... they did the exhust on my prix using cad format so doing this for them will be very simple and cheap if all goes well im thinking ill sell them for 150-200

anyone interested or comments

I live in sayreville... I would like take a look at this thing. Someone made these before, i think CTI made one for a customer. Would def be interested. PM me with info.

Also, your probably going to want to make it one peice because of their is less risk of blowing another IC coupler off and because of the added weight and wheel hop you could probably pop a hose.

i thought about that too but packaging and install would be a little bit more difficult maybe for locals ill keep it one peice

Alright! Now what would the gains be? We have to determine if the gains are worth the time.

im guessing 5-10 if u already have the pressure pipes so everything together would be prob 15-20 keep in mind its a full 2 1/4 cy. all the way from the turbo to the first pipe there no res. what so ever

id like to her other opinions to ...probally next week ill have a prototype done

i've already done the replacement piece for the rubber hose before the hotside of the i/c.. i thought about doing the rest up to the turbo.. but you are right about the packaging.. would be better in two pieces.. you guys would be surprised how well some good couplers and t-bolt clamps can hold..

only prob i would consider is when you increase piping diameters.. you increase "lag" thats partly why i havent even attempted to replace the rest of it yet.. personally i think the pipe is fine cept for the rubber end..

anyways props for trying it out.. tell us how it turns out.. never kno.. some lag is something these cars coud use.. might help you gain some top end mph

i was thinking about the lag aswell so i figured id start with 2 and a 1/4 and mess around with it from there

The stock piece is ok. Its 2.5", its hard to tell because its kind of ovalized. If you go down to 2.25" then it will lower the lag, but in all honesty you NEED lag on a stock turbo with a WGA. I say this because the turbo hits full boost at 2k! Thats super quick and lights up the tires and gives you part throttle boost. With a reduction in lag, it would only make it worst.

The only reason for replacing the piping is if it was rubber. Imsure i can mass produce the pipe also but I dont like taking peoples money for something that will not serve much of a purpose.

Hey, make it and see what happens! Nobody ever got anywhere by just talking about it! I am interested.

Im only planning on mass producing it if and only if it bring something to the table for our cars ur absolutly right about if i go down but the only way to do something is by testing i have the pipe done up i should be able to put it in this week end and ill work it from there

How are you having it made? I am just curious about the process. I know CAD well enough to get by, but I was wondering how you can take your own CAD design and develop an actual object from them?

I'm interested... let everyone know whats up when you get it done.

3d CAD machines. can also go into CAD controlled mandel benders. I've seen places like edlebrock use devices that run on CAD like software to get precise automatic bends.

its more of just a series of bends that i think are programed into the bender and all the guy has to do is push the pipe in a certain lenght and hit the button i never really though of asking how it was done ....when i watched that all he seemed after he took my cd they us cad format for some c n c machines aswell i guess it all depends on where u go aswell
