I'm thinking of getting a FMIC and wanted to know some thoughts on a "crash" bar. I DO NOT want a direct fit, so don't even mention that. I want the "crash" bar to tie the front end together, I'm not buying it for an accident.

I don't remember many of you FMIC guys; Hozay, Jeff and Brian, having crash bars so it never seemed like a big topic. I was hooked on the CTI and I was going to get their crash bar with it but I have other ideas now.

So, would you suggest a bar with the installation of a FMIC?

Thanks.

I'm getting the Quick Whips FMIC and the Performance Auto Werks crash bar. The fmic is ordered, still waiting on it. Then I'll get the crash bar.

You should have your stock crash bar modified.

After us talking about this Tom, it looks like a really crappy idea. Hacking the old bar would be a big pain in the ass and would really lose the purpose of it. Maybe I would have to read up on it more.

The slowboy crash bar that srtjay has and a bunch of others as well is pretty nice. Keep in mind that these aren't necessarily "crash" bars but more of a benefit to prevent flex and keep support up front.

The P-werks one looks real nice and its cheap. I would get it, its cheap insurance

i got the slowboy crashbar, fits perfect and you can't even see it. i know it's not going to help all that much in an accident, but it does add some structural support to the front end, which is what i was looking for.

I've heard that once you take off your crash bar, the whole front end shakes like hell

CCA with no crash bar. I haven't noticed any sort of flex, shake, or front end looseness since it's removal in September. Even over some of the biggest potholes in NJ, the car still feels as stable as it ever did.

If you're looking for the extra insurance of having one then get one of the previously mentioned.

If someone has some proven results with one on and with one off then that may sway your decision either way.

All I can share is my experience and I see/feel no difference either way.

I was thinking of the P-Werks, since it's cheap and seems to do exactly what I want it for, to tie the front end together.

I was also thinking about making my own. Some guy on the other Forums made one similar to the P-Werks. Doesn't look that hard.

Thanks for you input.

There's really no way to tell what works best, but personally I like the idea of the stock bar boxed in at a higher point rather than a smaller (1"?) square tubing setup. The stock bar is also arched in a way that will help absorb and transfer energy to the crumple zones.

I went to Lowes yesterday to get an idea of a bar. I think I can take 2 steel 1"x4 boxed tubes and 2 90 degree steel bends and just weld it all together. It would be similar to the P-Werks bar. I'm in the mood to make shit...hah.

If you can make something functional, let me know and maybe I'll be your first customer :bigthumb:

I will, I need to measure it out when I have the FMIC on but I really feel like making one. :)

just make it out of titanium, like the mopar strut bar.. should be stronger then the stocker
