I thought at first I just missed but everytime I try to wot shift into third it basically just grinds...Is it cuz i'm still stock or is my clutch/tranny messed up? I heard people say all the time i missed third constantly until I got a short throw....I'm hoping i'm going through the same thing.

if its grinding with the clutch to the floor somethings f'd up. if your missing it or cant find it, re-center your clutch.

i have problems with my 3rd gear, sometimes. clutch all the way down, shift into 3rd ... sometimes it will pop back out. Almost as if I didnt push it all the way in.

I think thats all it was though
But it ONLY happens in 3rd.

what does missing 3rd gear mean?

GotWhat?

what does missing 3rd gear mean? You go to put the shifter into the 3rd gear location and it doesn't go in. Happend all the time with the stock shifter.

i've heard of some people breaking their forks or their gear selector.

hopefully thats not your case.

Same thing thats happening to Dynasty is happening to me, Either I would push it into third and it would pop out, or it wouldnt go into third at all, even with the clutch pushed down as far as it could go. Ive gotten responses that say its from a third gear synchro that shot or could be a bent/broken shifter fork...

I only have problems with third during downshifts at moderate rpms 2000-4000. It wont go into gear sometimes but if i give it some extra force before i release the clutch it stays. Im also hoping a sts will solve my problem.

yeh its not worth WOT shifting unless your racing at the track or something worth messing your car up

last time at the track i only missed 3rd twice out of 12 runs wot shifting.. all depends on how you 'put it in' :hehe:

I used to shift WOT and it was cool for a while but then it started grinding so I said fuck that and stopped WOT shifts. I'd maybe only do it again if I was at the track. Besides I dont even feel it helps you....I regularly race someone who always shifts WOT while I don't and we stay dead even during the shifts. A lot of times I even gain on him while shifting. I don't think its worth it at all. The only good thing is that it sounds cool.(especially if you have stage 2  )

Yup, true story. The mechanic that took out his trans said that when he removed the drain plug there were chunks of metal that came out. FYI, the tech owns an SRT.

Anyway, I have never and will never WOT shift in my car. That's obviously my opinion, but after rebuilding transmissions in class I would hate to be those syncros. I would do it only if it was my weekend race car and I could afford to beat on it like that.

It does sound cool though.:D

I rarely do it.. i dont even do it at the track.. ive only done it a handful of times just to get it right while im racing.. the one to 2nd and 4th is cake but to 3rd took sometime to get.. but the feeling is awsome..

i wont power shift any of my cars, personally i dont think a 10th or 2 is worth a mis-shift to  tranny

Ive slammed my car into 2nd from 3rd instead of 4th twice at the strip.. i started to cry with my tranny, it was only for a milisecond cuz i caught it but lol my tranny is still ok *knocks on wood*

I no longer have a third gear. Im almost positive its the synchros b/c when i idle through first and second and go to shift to third i can get it to engage.

Sux but ill survive w/o it for a lil while.

Im at 15k miles would a trans fluid change do me anygood at this point?

hey guys with short throw shifters, before you drive yourself crazy with wot missed 3rd gears if you have your stock shifter put it back in and recheck it.sts's put alot of strain on the tranny especially on wot shifts

in fact i would bet my left nut that 90% of the tranny problems are caused by short throws

Do you think a gated short throw or one with gear stops would fix the problem?

How much time do you think that you'll make up by WOT shifting? Not a whole heck of alot if you think about. It's not worth damaging your car over it unless you have an endless means of $$$

you, of all people, should know the value of every .1 second ... WOT shifting will shave off enough time to make a slight difference.

now, is it worth destroying your tranny over a few .1 seconds? thats debatable. Then again, if you're worried about destroying your tranny due to WOT shifting ... you're probably equally hurting your tranny from constant 0-100 mph runs

I can't say that me not WOT shifting is going to give me a 12.9. I don't believe that and won't take that risk. Just IMO. I see the burnout and the launch as the worst part of the equation. Keep the tranny fluid changed and don't grind and your car "should" last.
