View Full Version : road raced for my first time today
i went over to etown today. they had a free road course day. i can now see why it is so addicting i think more so than drag racing but damn the car takes alot of abuse. also now i know that i have way too much power and way too few suspension mods to do this kind of racing. i couldnt even really get on the throttle without horrible tire spin and understeer.
fun isn't it? LOL!
how tough was it?

I always wanted to try it. I've seen some pretty quick lap times from F-Bodies but mine is setup too much for drag racing now.

that's because in drag racing, there is little to NO sensitivity required in your right foot...

:bsflag: Your Maro doesn't actually exist!!! PICS OR IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!

there is one turn that has a nice incline to it and all i heard was my tires slamming into my fenders every time i hit that turn. i am too low, and also i just dont like keeping my car at such a high rpm for so long, i was at the top of 2nd and 3rd the whole time

Id rather take that abuse then broken axles/trannies/tires.

I think auto-xing abuses the car much more than drag racing does, but then again .... racing is racing. abuse just comes with the territory of any racing style
i would rather a broken axle than a spun rod bearing or blown head

so true
overall, auto-xing is a much cheaper sport than drag racing but as fun as it is, I find dragging MUCH more adrenaline-pumping

i trust our engines have more longevity with hours of rpms at speed
than the shock these axels have to take from 0 MPH to whatever torque is required for launching

not with 70+k on them. and for the record, i have hundreds of passes on slicks and have never broken an axle

70K is a bit.
so is a hundred passes-that is awesome.

You're kidding right? Just in case you're not..
There is an EXTREME sensitivity in peddle feel, clutch feel, suspension feel and tire shutter all made in a split second while overcoming pressure, noise and adrenaline.
Peddle modulation in a drag race can make or break a race or destroy a car.

All the abuse of drag racing, with the added abuse on the suspension, tires and braking system
so true

AutoX is not cheaper. Especially road racing. It doesn't cost $300 to go to the drag strip or license fees

i vote road course for the money. i like to savour the laps. i like that lil track too. congrats on expanding your horizons, andy.
