so i'm trying to decide between a 08 subaru imprezza 2.5I Premium 5-door or the 08 vw GTi MkV.
here's the issues....
1. cost.
the imprezza is going to run me $250/month with $1900 up front (includes tax, title, etc).
the GTi will cost me $269/month with $1999 up front PLUS tax, title, etc. so more like 4k up front. or i can roll taxes into payments and it would be around $280/month.
overall costs of the car are the subaru at 20k and the vw at 22k.
2. power issues
the imprezza is a n/a 2.5l boxter motor putting out 170hp. comes with a 5-spd.
the vw is a 2.0T putting out 200hp. comes with a 6 spd manual.
3. drivetrain
imprezza is awd
vw is fwd
so.....what to get?

killing me on gas. i LOVE the jeep and i'm going to miss it when it's gone, but the 170 miles i get on a 14 gallon fill just isn't cutting it. i need a little more than 12 mpg lol.

Test drive both.
Get the one with the better suspension and bigger brakes.
wait so the subaru is
cheaper & awd

Neither, Just my opinion though. :) Buy a 09 lancer GTS their offering great deals on them right now. and they drive great an have room for 4 people comfortably.
18 inch wheels? 4wheel disc brakes? 650 watt rockford fosgate system? sunroof? 168horse mivec engine? 6speed auto with paddle shifters cvt trans?? Lol the answer is Lancer.

People like you are the reasons threads get so offtopic. Id rather buy from a car company that will be around in a couple years.
I vote Suby Amy.

i was considering the lancer at first. the only one that you can get a good deal on is the de which is the base model. not interested. i might go take a second look at it though.
i test drove the imprezza last night and the gti this morning. for the money, the gti is a LOT nicer of a car. the imprezza honestly, was...well boring. it's ok, but the interior is sparce, there's not a whole lot going on, and it's kinda slow. i wasn't all that impressed with it. i still like the look of the exterior, but i honestly can't see myself happy with that car in 6 months. yea the awd is nice for the three times it snows.
the difference in price between the two is going to be about $10 a month after i dealt with the numbers at both dealers. the subie was about $282, the GTI was $291. for the money, i'm taking the gti.
i might go take the lancer out for a test drive, but as of right now i'm probably getting the gti. i need to sell the jeep first, they're not offering me what i owe on the jeep. so hopefully it will sell *crosses fingers*

I would get the subie. If The climate changes like the movie Day After Tomorrow.
You will need all wheel drive.
You already have a fast car. Get the safe vehicle.

i voted subie, but if you are happier with the GTi after the test drive, then I think you have your answer. Good luck with whatever you decide :)
Neither, get this....http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3093/2594530196_6ef98e5c0c.jpg?v=0

hopefully i won't have a fast car soon. the neon is on ebay
this is going to be a dd so i want something that i like. i like the idea of the awd, but honestly the imprezza is just too boring. i'm going to take out a lancer this week and see how i like that, but i'm pretty set on the gti as of right now.
and jen, no thanks on the smart car lol
as much as i don't like Vdubs......i'd have to say go with the GTI.....i mean first off.....turbo>* lol but seriously, from what you said, the GTI seems like a car you'd enjoy in the long run, awd is great in the snow but it doesn't snow all year round here......i'm assuming this is gonna be a lease right? so if you aren't gonna mod it at least it's boosted already and it'll be fun to drive.....and i honestly like the way the GTI looks alot more than the new subies.......

The GTi except I would wait for the MKVI for the extra 10hp it will be making.

I think both cars will be be costly when they break. Especially the GTi over the Subie.
