Whats legal % for tint in Ny.

as the title states thats the next thing on my list. how dark can i legally go and what do most ppl suggest?

depends on your area. Some cops will bitch about 35% (which arent that dark) ... Other cops wont care what you have.

I have limo (5%) .. i havent gotten my balls busted at all......yet :)

The only problem with that, is that you'll need a doctor's note and then i THINK you have to fill out a form (thru NYS DMV)...

whatever you get, just know the possible outcome. I've gotten pulled over 3 times so far for the tints (20%). Luckily no tickets... but then it lead to other things from the police officers, 1 even gave me a hard time about the 'stock' spoiler. No tickets yet, but honestly be prepared to be pulled over for whatever % you get. Just be polite and try your best to ride with windows down during the night, or atleast when you see a cop.

Go 5% and get a prescription from your doctor for tints for either eye or skin problems and it will keep you from ever getting a ticket for tins. I am not sure if I would go 5%, I was just kidding, I think 20% looks great.

btw i have 3% custom, i bought the car with it.. i cant see out of my windows..so dont go that dark lol.. 20 is fine

I have 20% in the front 2 and 5% in the back three. I like the privacy 5 gives me and would've got it on the front 2 but it's just way too dark at night.

As for tickets, I got my tint done at 10:30 AM and was pulled over at 1:30 PM. No ticket, just used the windows won't roll down excuse. He had the tester behind his back.

But I could definately could get that Dr.'s note legitimately. I need to make an appointment.

I tell u what..I've had my 20% tints on since I can remember and never had an issue with them. Only time's i've been pulled over were for the front plate. :whip:

20% was perfect for me. Dark outside but I can see clearly from the inside out.

as the ONLY guy on this forum (that i know of) that worked in a shop and has a customer who is in fact an officer..... there is NO legal tint except for the one that came from the factory. police usually let people get away w/ 35% in the front.... only if they're assholes will they give you a ticket.

i have 20% all around in my car... and i'm getting 35% on my windshield soon.

i've actually been thinking about asking my optimologist for this. i have some difficulties seeing at night due to on coming traffic, maybe i can get a windshield tint out of it....
