speed signal wire

well this is a problem thats been happening since i installed my turbo timer months ago im just deciding to fix it now its an HKS turbo timer, the problem is i connected the MPH wire from the timer to the speed signal wire and it is totally off i will be going about 40 and the timer will say im going 80 and there is a big delay in the readings like when i completely stop it will take the timer a couple secs to catch up to me stopping anyone at all has any idea on how to fix this any info will be very appreciated.

I know the Greddy one you have to set it for 40kph. Like theres a mode were you have to drive up to 40kph then hold it, and have a friend (or you if your really good at multitasking) press the "SET" button so the turbo time knows what the sensor from the speed signal sensor wire is so it can correlate to other speeds.
