I was talking to some guy today and he told me that putting 1000 or 1500 lb springs in the back of our cars would help traction...Made sense to me; anyone done this or something like that? Or was he just bullshitting?

You gotta be insane. The Hardest spring rates for even rough driving is 300 something. 1000 would be like replacing your rear struts with solid metal bars.

He might have been talking about coilovers. But even then the highest spring rate I have ever heard of is 1200lbs. So no not that much. Now if you had stock struts and wanted to up them a little 300 ish that would help to get traction, but with coilovers (good set) you can adjust the spring rates without moving the height up.

He is not bullshitting-it's limiting weight transfer. However, it's a matter of personal preference for ride quality. Your ride quality will suffer and depending on your driver skill level and/or tire tread, any precipitation could easily cause some rotation.
