I would say rookie mistake, however his class did not say novice. Besides a rookie usually wouldn't bring a second set of wheels to mount.
Call it owner error & chaulk it up to live and learn.
As a few of you know, one of my favorite tools is a torque wrench.

i think they said he used the wrong style lug nuts. he just got the wheels and lug nuts day before or something like that.
