I'm thinking about painted or powder coating the calipers red. They look kinda boring as plain metal looking gray. How much would each cost and what the pro's and con's between each method?

to be honest. If you were going to do anything please paint them black, not red.

I'm going with powdercoating. But then I have a spare set of calipers to take apart and a powdercoating kit/tool from Sears (birthday gift from like 2 years ago) that I want to play with anyways. :D

caliper paint works very well. Pros are you don't have to really disassemble a damn thing. Just remember, surface prep is EVERYTHING. Cons are you won't be able to cover every already painted surface easily.

Do not apply at temperatures bellow 70F (21C).

So... Gary can do his calipers sometime in August maybe? :D

Ill be doing my evo calipers gloss black this coming week with this stuff...taking them off the car and bringing them in house, prep them, paint them, bake them, install them...

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble:

Gary, should you eventually get serious about the track, DS, and/or HPDE - caliper paint is NOT going to hold up to the temps of them calipers.

As far as how you want to spend your time and money now - is all a personal choice.

I'm sure he's going more for the visual appeal right now Howard. Until of course he gets the hang of going up a hill let along racing  As the other guys already mentioned Gary, the VHT stuff is great. I have a can of red left in the house if you want it. Should be good for all 4 calipers unless of course you choose to go with black.

I think the red stands out more and looks good. Unless I go yellow... lol
BTW - I'm getting used to hills now haha

I would do them black, red shouldn't look that bad though. I would paint them, I painted my friends VW calipers with DupliColor caliper brush on paint almost 2 years ago and they still look like they were just painted. No chipping or anything.

a powdercoating kit/tool from Sears

How difficult is it to powdercoat a caliper yourself? I thought you had to bake the caliper after you powdercoat it

You simply paint it on with a brush? Hmm....

This is the next step Gary, when you have to bleed them before each session:

(doesn't brake fluid eat paint?) lol

I was going to powdercoat mine blue, but maybe I'll try stripping them to a bare finish to match the wheels. :D

they would look like raw iron.
then they would oxidize.
then they would look orange.
i think this would be true, but not sure.

see profile pic for blue dupli-color caliper paint on my srt-4. had it over a year with no problems and it looks great. much cheeper and easyer than powdercoating.
