I will be attending SCCA Performance Driving Experience at Poconos Raceway this summer. It will give each driver 2 HOURS of track time on the longest configuration on this track. You can have a instructor ride with you. Howard raced this 2 years ago and he hit 135 on the main straight on Stage 1. You get to drive your own car against EVO's, porsche's, vette's, etc. All you need is a helmet.

Let me add my two cents to this post:
-the time & configuration you get to drive is the FULL LONG COURSE (http://www.triregionracing.org/Forms/2007PDXad.pdf)
-this is NOT the north, south, or east configuration
-this is the LONGEST configuration that ONLY this driving school offers
-it is perhaps the FASTEST configuration that ONLY this school offers
-instructors will be assigned to novices since they will be asking for your track experience on the application form
-i ran solo the first time here, but in retrospect - i should've taken an instructor with me (at least for the first session)
-also i hit speeds of 140+ in 5th gear with stage 0, stock WGA, michelin pilot sports 205/50/17
-i was also outbraking almost everyone in my run group with the exception of the racecar viper (corner worker #1 was telling me so)
-i HIGHLY recommend investing in a set of race pads to bring with/or swap for the event. due to the speeds of this course i'm going to say a set Front AND Rear. OE pads will be destroyed by the end of the day.
-you will not be dissapointed in terms of a first time experience at this facility: it is flat, long, and wide-very forgiving for first time track drivers
Regulations are listed here: (includes helmet & PRE event tech requirements) (http://www.triregionracing.org/Forms/07pdxsupps-draft.pdf)
please post if you have any questions that the website does not provide.
I am gonna register myself and my dad tomorrow!

Here is a video: Turn 2-> chicane, Turn 1-> front straight (http://www.maximumcars.net/hosted/htheduck/uploaded/cobra%20pass.wmv) (Low res.)
Here is another video of nearly 1.5 full laps of the configuration (http://www.maximumcars.net/hosted/htheduck/uploaded/pocono05.wmv) (Low res.)
Note the configuration is clockwise, vs counterclockwise in the NASCAR configuration.
Here is a small screen shot - like I said, it's a pretty fast course:

Sure looks like it is. Your speedo is at 140. =):D

Yeah...............$25 isn't really that big of a deal to me though..........
Is there any chance that this could get filled up? like sold out? How many cars can they take?

I really didn't get too much time to look down on most laps.
I think overall it might be a little faster than DR. :)

Yes.
I'm not sure (30-45 guess?), you could call the event coordinator for those details. There are also last minute cancellations, wait list, etc.

Yep, very clever perception there Jared.
I wore those two V8's down and my pads too!
The SRT4 doesn't have the torque to pull out of the corners like you see in the video vs those V8's.
BUT when their brake lights are on BEFORE the 5 marker, mine come on at 4 1/2....:woot:
This event was in June. I did one more event that year in NHIS (2 days) in OCT...look at these rotors:

Honestly if I had the money I would be all over this. Unfortunatly at this point in time I don't and will have to stick with Auto-Xing. Hopefully within the next few years I can begin Road Racing, but we'll see how it goes...

wait for beau to chime in, however-i think he's only doing the SAT date.
it will be an early (not to mention long) day if you go there for one day only.
you should generally be there by 700 and start prepping you car.
hey, after all: men are only up early for two things:
-golf
or
-the track :woot:

Anything with high operating temps--these are some of my favorites that I've had experience with:
hawk ht-10, hp+ / porterfield r4 / carbotch XP8
no experience with:
raybestos ST-41,42,43,38 / performance friction 80,83,90,93,97,01,03
i also recommend a good flush and re-fill with new fluid and/or higher temp b fluid.
I have no experience with evo brakes, other than I like the size of them. you may perhaps need to troll the road course section of the evo boards to get an idea--from someone with results.
brake compounds in general are like tires, you find a set that you like by mixing and matching. then you stick with them. everyone has a difference in driving style. :woot:

are you going howard?
75% chance that I will be spectating. You?
no driving?
what's the point of spectating! :D
as for me going, that depends on a myriad of factors...
job
wife
wheels & tires (not done with the motegi's yet; issues with the white wheels; thinking about getting a set of Flik FTD 17x8 +35's and some good road course rubbers)
htheduck
05-31-07, 11:11 AM
that % for spectating is dropping fast there beau. when i last spoke to you--you had not submitted the paperwork in.
as for me driving, i don't have any wheels - so i won't make it. your wheel issue sounds self-induced, associated with a myriad of problems.
i know there are a few TST people driving on that day...

gotta new issue to solve. if that gets done then yeah
howard:
I'm seriously looking at a set of Flik FTD wheels. $400 for 17x8 +35 offset at 18.5lbs is a pretty damn good deal. Pick up a set of dedicated rubbers and mount them up.
For me it's almost all $$$ right now. I got about $4000 in credit card bills pending and about $8000 in monies owed me by clients. I gotta get all this straightened out you know. I need another week vacation and this could be something that'd be neat to kick it off with. :D
howard: where's your vids from Poconos.

it tells me i'll probably die if i track it wit bad wheel bearings (yeah they went bad again in two weeks) or the motor will prolly blow after multiple missed shifts from a clutch that won't disengage.
