1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the infinity gold am/fm/cassette and amplifier package. Trying to install Sony xplod head unit, got all the wiring harnesses and everything, so it should just be plug and play, right?
nope, radio works perfectly, but the cd player won't play a damn thing. It's almost like the factory amp is being turned off when I switch to cd. I tried wiring in the amp signal wire with the antenna power wire, nothing. Tried wiring amp signal wire with 12v ignition wire to keep amp on when vehicle is on. nothing.
Here's something even weirder. Thinking I have to rewire the whole vehicle, I started writing down wire colors and locations. The factory wires that come out of the head unit are exactly the same as the ones coming out of the amp, going to the speaker. However, those same wire colors do not enter the amp anywhere. WTF???
Need some hardcore help, definately NOT trying to rewire the whole thing.

There should be a blue wire that comes off the radio. This is the remote wire for the amp. This should be wired directly to the amp. Has this been completed?

the amp is a factory amp, not an aftermarket amp. I dont have any wiring diagrams for the car, and haven't started testing every wire with the multimeter yet.

Ohh factory amp. Stumped as well man. Sorry. There used to be a guy on here that was really well versed in auto audio. He had a conniption and left though.

it should be plug-n-play. Is the radio new?

Something's wrong with the headunit, doesn't make sense that one is working and not the other.

Hey man since i work for a shop and i am at work right now,
with the factory amplified headunit u actully have to redo sum extra wireing to have the factory amp still work and coinside with the speakers,
now if it was a regular honda no amp'd factory speaker system it would be all plug and play, but since it is a factory amplified radio there is extra wireing involved, you should be able to find it online...on a how to, i would type it out but its long, and im slammed at work with 20 cars, to finsh by 6 n 6guys working on the cars, if u have anymore questions you can pm me

Headunit is new, replacing factory one
The new headunit is working fine, as I said before (and backed up by a local well-known audio shop), when the radio is on, the amp is getting power from somewhere. once the radio is turned off and the cd player is on, the antenna goes down, which i think coincides with the amp turning off.
Still at a loss here, running new wires from the headunit back to the speakers is going to be a humongous PITA.

the reason why it's shutting down when you're playing a cd is b/c you hooked up the wrong turn on wire. the blue wire is for the antenna... the blue/white wire is the amp turn on lead. the blue/white wire stays on as soon as the radio turns on.

i know this....ive stated that before....the amp lead HAS NO CONNECTION using the wiring harnesses that were sold to me....IT's just a dead lead. Problem solved anyway, just bypassed the factory amp, took 2 hours to figure out what wires went where, ended up doin the old battery test.
