I also wanted too look into the difference between the short and long blocks and which one is preferred over the other?

short block is just a bottom end, long block would be the head AND block together.

For the sake of all things... just find a used SRT/GT block and build that. If you take a aveneger block or stratus or anything other, you are going to need to put tons of work into it. Like adding oil squirters for cylinder lubrication... yes i said lube... and all kinds of other fun things. Also, make sure that you get all the required pieces for it. Make sure you get the short block with the bedplate from that motor, or else its not going to seal. If you can get one with a clean crank, then you can probably send it out and get it beefed up. just my 2c

mopar's blocks are complete assembled correct...if so i saw one go for 1000 brand new from speed and power...i might be wrong

Thats always a good option, since you get a clean block (no cracks) a new crank, and you can always reuse the rods if you dont want a crazy build up, and that should be good for 500hp

Like sauce said, A Short block is just a complete bottom end without a head. I Long block is a complete block with head.

How about you save yourselves the headaches and just go to www.speedandpowerdevelopment.com and buy the short block for $977 + shipping and call it a day.:thumb:

Because i don't want to pay for pistons, rods and assembly that I am not going to use.
